Yeshivas Doresh Opens in South Florida

yd.jpgYeshivas Doresh, formerly of Cleveland, has relocated to Aventura, Florida, where its Rosh Yeshivah, Rabbi Mordechai Salfer, and his wife and family, and the talmidim have been enthusiastically welcomed by the local Jewish community.

The yeshivah accommodates mesivta-aged bachurim who have difficulty with kriyah or havanah who are taught through a number of unique teaching styles and hands-on learning. Doresh’s setting is typical of any yeshivah, with the usual seder hayom and limudim of Gemara, halachah, etc., but with additional limudim. For example, the bachorim memorize the names of all sifrei Tanach, Shishah Sidrei Mishnah, and the melachos of Shabbos. The yeshivah uses success in learning to engage the bachurim and to develop within them a love for learning. There are also interesting trips to New York City and other Torah communities to visit prominent Roshei Yeshivah, Rabbanim and Rebbes and engage in hands-on learning, such as a visit last year to Kiryas Yoel where the talmidim visited a wine factory and matzah bakery.

In its new surroundings, the yeshivah has found a warm home in the brand-new, beautiful facilities of the Beis Dovid Highland Lakes Shul where its mara d’asra, Rabbi Moshe Rothchild, has gone all out to make the talmidim feel at home. Beis Dovid is a kehillah whose members take their spiritual growth very seriously and are inspired by the admirable progress in Torah, yiras Shamayim and middos tovos that they see in the Doresh talmidim as goal to strive for.
Beis Dovid, in fact, is a shul that offers its members on an ongoing basis throughout the year numerous opportunities, through a variety of stimulating programs, to further their Torah knowledge, to dispense chessed, and to become inspired to further their growth in all aspects of Yiddishkeit. The yeshivah will be an active partner in these efforts and the benefits promise to be mutual.

Doresh recently welcomed to its hanhalah Rabbi Yossi and Rebbetzin Judy Abrams, whose decades of experience in chinuch are benefiting the bachurim in a variety of ways.

Located about a two-minute walk from the shul premises, the yeshivah has also acquired a lovely, spacious house that is serving as its dormitory. The building, which is situated on a beautiful lake, has grounds where the bachurim can take part in recreational activities during their break and is.

Of particular note is the Shabbos programming that Yeshivas Doresh provides for its talmidim, a delicate balance of Torah and ruach, which is designed to convey an appreciation of the sweetness of Shabbos to the talmidim. There is a weekly oneg Shabbos hosted by the Salfers, replete with various delicacies, as well as a weekly melaveh malkah, which is graced by various local personalities many of whom have special insights and talents to share with the boys. The Motzoei Shabbos program often features an interesting story that conveys an important lesson, with which to enter the coming week.

At the melaveh malkah for Motzoei Shabbos Parashas Lech Lecha, attended by the yeshivah’s talmidim and other guests, the guest speaker was local askan Mr. Jerry Kirshstein, a child of Holocaust survivors, who spoke about his father who after tragically losing his wife and children during the war, survived and came to America to start a new family and rebuild his life. All in attendance were moved by the inspiring stories and the lively zmiros that followed, led by Rabbi Rothchild.

With the help of the Ribbono Shel Olam, Yeshivas Doresh hopes to see much continued hatzlachah with its talmidim, from whom they should merit to see abundant peiros and nachas. For more information on Yeshivas Doresh, please call 216-233-0065.

  1. I have known Rabbi Salfer and his family — parents and siblings — for over thirty-five years. A family dedicated to chinuch, their home was always warm and open and served as the fertile ground for the growth of many neshamos in parts of America where Torah-true yiddishkeit was not well known and certainly under-appreciated. It is no wonder that Reb Mordechai, whom I remember since he was quite young, has dedicated himself to such an important project. I am mispallel that the Ribono shel Olam will bring him much success.

  2. Both the Salfers and the Abrams families are wonderful people – who have given much to Klal Yisroel and have much more to give. We wish you much Hatlacha – and miss you guys!
    All the Best,
    S & L of Upper Bendemeer!

  3. this yeshiva has brought an amazing amount of yiddishkiet to our shul in highland lakes so they should have much halzlocha and bracha

  4. I guess this is a paid advertisement. That must be why you did not post my first comment!!

Moderators Note: Actually, it’s not an advertisement, and the reason we didn’t post your comment was because it was rude, stupid, childish, and straight-our ridicules. If you have a message for the staff at YWN, please contact them through the appropriate channels, and not to stick in in as a comment.

  5. To the Safiers and all the talmidim. May you all see much bracha and Hatzlacha,in all your eandevers(hope the spelling is correct)and may you bring with you the light of torah to the yidden of Highland falls, and create a kiddush hashem there. P.S. You can throw away those snow parkas, with down filling that used to use in ohio,no need for it here. hope to see you IY’h sometimes in the future.
