Winter Weather Advisory Issued Across Tri-State

cold.jpgMake sure you bundle up! That’s the message from meterologists working at WCBSTV on Wednesday – as the tri-state area braces for the fury of an Arctic blast that makes its way into the region today and progressively becomes more severe as the weekend approaches.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory on Wednesday afternoon for most of the tri-state area. Snow will move in from the west on Wednesday night along with even colder tempeartures.

Flurries will start before midnight to the west of New York City and after midnight to the east. City residents could see an inch or so of snow by the Thursday morning drive.

The snow should continue to fall in the morning hours, and will end mid-morning to the west of NYC and over Long Island during the early afternoon.

By the time the system moves out, 1 to 3 inches of snow should be on the ground in New York City with higher totals possible north and over eastern Long Island.

The big story for the evening drive will be the wind which will blow around this dry fluffy snow, while causing wind chill values Zero to 5 below.

The Northeast will feel the full wrath of the front Thursday as temperatures struggle to reach double digits.

Gusts of up to 30 mph are expected, making the air feel much colder.

With this arctic blast, New York City’s Department of Homeless Services is stepping up its outreach teams over the next three days, monitoring the city’s neediest residents.

Temperatures Thursday will be in the teens with a wind chill of about zero.

The core of the brutally cold weather will invade the area overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Air temperatures will range from 5-10 in the city, with strong winds causing a wind chill of 10-15 below zero.

Saturday looks unbearable as well as temperatures will hover around 10 degrees with a wind chill well below zero.

  1. i am no fan of the global warming worldwide scare; however, a few freezing cold days in the states do not rule it out.
