Staten Island: Kollel Knesses Yisroel Vandalized

The following article is from the Staten Island Advance: Congregation Kollel Knesses Yisroel, a religious group in Staten Island’s Eltingville community that runs high-level Torah study groups for Jewish men, has kept a low profile.

When the 10-year-old Richmond Avenue storefront was occasionally targeted for vandalism, its leaders were cautioned about jumping to accusations of anti-Semitism.

But after windows were broken Wednesday night, and none of the businesses around them were affected, “we know good and well what this was,” said Shlomo Kramer, a Kollel official.

Three plate-glass windows were shattered and another window broken during the attack that occurred during the rare summer period when no one is at the center.

“We know it happens, but we’re all just a little bit shocked at the way we were attacked,” Kramer said. “We’re not here to bother anybody.”

Kramer said he reported the latest incident to the police, and expects to meet with law enforcement officials early next week.

“God forbid if someone does something like that,” Kramer said, “and it hurts someone.”
