PHOTO ESSAY: Haddasim – From The Tree To Shuk

had.jpg[YWN PHOTO LINK BELOW] Ever wonder where those “AA Mehudar” haddasim that you buy for your arba minim come from? Join Yeshiva World as we follow the path of the haddasim under the hashgacha of HaRav Shlomo Zalman Ulman Shlita of Zichron Meir in Bnei Brak – from the tree all the way to the shuk.

1. The haddasim are carefully cut from the tree as not to damage the leaves.

2. The cut haddasim are then rolled in a moist sackcloth for transport to the sorting house on Moshav Matityahu.

3. When the haddasim arrive at the Matityahu sorting house, they are immediately placed in buckets of water to maintain their freshness.

4. The haddasim undergo an initial round of inspection by the mashgichim.

5. The pasulim are separated by the mashgichim and discarded.

6. The haddasim are then sorted by a second group of mashgichim according to their hidur.

7. Once the haddasim are sorted, Shimon Lobel makes sure that they are kept moist.

8. Michoel Hazen and his team then prepare the haddasim for packaging.

9. After the haddasim are sealed, the little Hazens package them.

10. The packaged haddasim, both open and closed, are placed in a refrigerated container to be shipped.

11. Customers inspect their haddasim yet again in an open shuk.

12. And then finally, the haddasim are used for the mitzvah on Sukkos!
