EJC: United Nations General Assembly Is ‘Last Refuge Of Tyrants’ For Allowing Ahmadinejad To Speak

ach2.jpgThe European Jewish Congress (EJC) has strongly criticized the United Nations General Assembly in the lead up to Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s speech today.

EJC President Dr. Moshe Kantor is outraged that Ahmadinejad should be allowed year after year to use the General Assembly podium to spread his malicious fabrications.

“There is no other organization with such an august reputation that allows vile propaganda and lies from a dictator to be prorogated in this manner,” Kantor said.

“The United Nations has sadly demonstrated once again that it has allowed itself to become the last refuge of tyrants,” Kantor continued. “As Europeans we are appalled that hate, racism and intolerance have a platform of this kind.”

The European Jewish Congress calls on European nations to seriously consider reducing cooperation with the General Assembly until plans are made to curb hate speeches within the plenum.

“It is particularly incumbent on European leaders who live on a continent with a history steeped in blood and conflict to say to the world that words and declarations do matter and we will no longer participate in this farce,” Kantor said.

“We therefore call on the European delegations to walk out the moment Ahmadinejad begins any diatribe against Israel or denial of the Holocaust.”

The European Jewish Congress is particularly saddened that such an organization as the United Nations with lofty goals is being abused by those who have no consideration for human rights, freedom and equality.

“The United Nations Charter was written in the ashes of the Holocaust and spoke of tolerance, peace and security. Ahmadinejad has trampled on these words as he suppresses his own people, preaches genocide and seeks regional military domination,” said Kantor.

“When will the democratic and accountable nations of the world stand up and say enough to Ahmadinejad, he has been given a carte blanche to spew his contempt for the West, and our leaders react with mere denunciations. Ahmadinejad and his regime take note of the lack of action and this emboldens them to continue their activities, especially with regards to their nuclear weapons program,” Kantor added.

The European Jewish Congress is the democratically elected representative body of European Jewish communities.

  1. The United Nations invites all Heads of State to speak. No head of a member state has ever been excluded. The EJC doesn’t make any sense. Do they belive the UN is limited to good and pure countries (it was after all, founded by Josef Stalin, two large colonial empires, and a large “democracy” that had excluded a tenth of its population from voting on racial grounds).

  2. The UN has long ago outlived it’s usefulness. The building complex should be turned into condos and the “United Nations Against Israel and the U.S.” (its REAL full name) should be relocated to somewhere more appropriate, – like maybe Syria or North Korea.
