Agudah Lauds Senators Who Voted Against Same-Gender Marriage

agudah1.jpgAgudath Israel of America lauded the New York State Senate’s defeat today of legislation that would have redefined marriage in the state. Although the bill legalizing “same-sex marriage” enjoyed the support of New York Governor David A. Paterson, its defeat was decisive, with 38 members opposed and 24 in favor of the bill.

Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, the organization’s executive vice president, had warm words for the legislators who voted to preserve traditional marriage, and made special mention of the important role members of the Orthodox Jewish community played – by contacting legislators over past months and especially in recent days – to express their opposition to the bill.

“When our community comes together to respond to challenges,” he said, “good things happen.”

  1. I would not give much credit to the orthodox community for the defeat of this bill.It seems that all the senators who represent neighborhoods with large orthodox communities voted for gay marriage.A very sorry state of affairs.

  2. MONSEY SEEMS TO BE MORE SERIOUS ABOUT TOEVA THAN NEW YORK CITY. THEIR REPRESENTATIVE MORAHAN VOTED “NO.”

OUR REPS WILL PROBABLY THROW US A FEW DOLLARS, AND TELL US TO FORGET IT.

  3. #1 you are incorrect. Carl Kruger and Marty Goldin stood strong as well as Sen. Morahan from Monsey. Thank you Senators we will continue to support you.
We have a lot of work to do. Had Simcha Felder beaten Kevin Parker last year our community would have a very strong voice in Albany. Instead Kevin parker and Dianne Savino represent BORO PARK and voted YES! BORO PARK residents read this. Those who supported Parker should be ashamed and those who stayed home on election day need to understand how powerful we could be (or not) when we vote.
Remind me again who supported Kevin Parker???
As the famous saying goes “all politics is local.”

  4. I called Sen. Skelos yesterday & I called Sen. Krueger twice, last week and Monday. When I called this afternoon, his staff quickly replied he had voted “No”.
I alerted my chaverim in Yeshiva Zichron Eliezer last week.
What did you other YWN people do?
