PHOTOS: Flatbush Shomrim & NYPD Arrest 3 Suspects For Mugging Yeshiva Student

[YWN PHOTO LINK BELOW] Three thugs have just been arrested for mugging and assaulting a 12-year-old Yeshiva student, thanks to the great work of the Flatbush Shomrim Safety patrol (FSSP).

At approximately 9:15PM, the three suspects approached the 12-year-old walking home on East 28th Street and Quentin Road, threw him to the floor, and began going through his pockets and demanded money. He responded that all he had was his cell phone. They continued to shake him up, and threatened that he “better not tell anyone what happened”.

By chance, an FSSP member was patrolling the streets of Flatbush, when he noticed the three teens walking away, and the boy lying on the icy sidewalk. He radioed for backup and responding units quietly began following the suspects, while another attended to the boy, and the NYPD was contacted to respond with an “unmarked patrol car”.

The three suspects were safely apprehended by officers of the NYPD’s 61st Precinct on East 21st Street between Avenue P and Quentin Road.

Two of the suspects are 16, and one is 18-years-old. They have all been charged with attempted robbery and assault.

Besides for being shaken up, Boruch Hashem the child was unharmed.

Always remember: If you see suspicious activity – even if you are unsure – please call the Flatbush Shomrim 24 hour emergency hotline number at 718-338-9797.

  1. AWESOME!! Courage all around!! Find it hard to even begin to comprehend why a 12 year old boy would be so ruthlessly attacked by not one, but three THUGS for money. How much money could this boy have had already? Did they think he just close up shop and had a wad of cash in his pocket? Folks, the lesson and moral of the story is: Be vigilant, if you see something, get involved!! Pick up the phone and make that call.

  2. Rabbosai: There is no such thing as “by chance” unless you went to either Yeshivas Va’Yavo Amaleik AKA Bais Mikreh (happenstance). One of the yesodos of our emunah is that there is no mikreh, there are no accidents.

  3. Why is it that people have to pick apart articles analyzing every word, stop being such a fanatic. The reporters have a job and they very good at it.and they don’t need critics
People like you shouldn’t have the internet because its an isur!!!!!

  4. Great job shomrim. Obviously Hashem is happy with what you do and has put a member in the right place at the right time. I also hope that these thugs get some prison time or juvie for this or else it will happen again in a few weeks to some other kid.

  5. I don’t understand why YWN continues to insist on using the words “Shomrim” and “arrest” together. Shomrim are not police. They do not arrest anyone. They followed the suspects, but do not give them credit for arresting them!

  6. To mamashtakah:
Well yeah they can’t formally arrest them. All they do is follow them? Haha. In Crown Heights they tackle. Anyway they can technically arrest them the same way I can arrest someone and you can too, it’s call a citizens arrest.

  7. #12 – FYI, even “YOU” have the right to make a citizens arrest, did you know that? What differentiates you from Shomrim is simply that they put their safety on the line, never knowing if a criminal is armed and are also well versed in the technicalities and legalities of effecting an arrest. As #8 stated, stop picking apart articles and consider giving credit where credit is due, it might score ya points “upstairs”…

  8. My son was mugged on the corner of P and 28th by 3 guys at night. He was also jummped with his friend by 3 public school students one Friday afternoon. Avenue P from E 24th to Nostrand is a secluded area at night because it is only a 6 block stretch and there are no houses on one side from Bedford to 27th. This is is a recipe for danger – also during the day when the public school population roams the area.
I try not to walk there at all.
