NY: Yet Another Toyota Prius Goes Rogue, Smashes Into Wall

Things went from bad to worse to downright awful for Toyota on Tuesday as yet another of their Prius hybrid vehicles was involved in an accident involving a stuck accelerator pedal.

According to police in Harrison, NY, the 56-year-old driver was pulling out of her driveway in her 2005 Prius when the car “shot” across the road and into a stone wall. The driver suffered some minor injuries in the accident.

Just like the car involved in Monday’s runaway Prius incident in California, the NY vehicle is among the cars included in Toyota’s massive recall for floor mats that may be causing the accelerator to stick.

However, since Toyota has yet to come up with a remedy for the specific problem with the Prius floormats, the car maker has only been telling drivers to remove the mats.

But both the driver in Monday’s incident and a police officer investigating yesterday’s accident believe that the floormats had nothing to do with the stuck pedals.

“I was reaching down, trying to pull on the gas pedal,” the California driver told reporters. “It didn’t move at all. It was stationary.”

And the police chief in Harrison told the press that the floormat in that incident was secured with plastic ties.

This only adds fuel to the fire for those who believe that there is a much larger problem at play with the electrical systems in the faulty vehicles.

As has been their stance since these reports began, Toyota continues to shrug off implications of electrical problems.

“We have yet to find any evidence of an electronic glitch. If we could find something wrong, we would fix it and be done with it,” a rep for the company said on Tuesday.

  1. I think now is a great time to buy a Toyota. It comes with a free pass to speed. If you get pulled over, you just tell the cop that your gas pedal was stuck down.

  2. I agree with #1. Every klutz who drives a Toyota has the perfect excuse. I don’t believe this incident had anything to do with the pedal, except for the fact that there was a heavy foot pressing on it!

  3. I also agree with #1 & #3. The Obama administration has got Toyota in their sights. They are not unionized and they are the competion to all of the auto companies who are controlled by the government.

  4. #’s 1, 3, and 4, you guys are nuts! If you don’t want to die, maybe you SHOULDN’T go buy yourself a Toyota!

  5. Chushuva yid, I HAVE BEEN a victim of a car accident. This has very little or anything to do with a possible computer flaw with their brake system. Even the communist, liberals of the Consumer’s Union who publishes exclusively Consumer Reports have been questioning the veracity of all of these accident reports.

  6. TO FLATBUSH BUBBY- THINK AGAIN – NY TIMES ALSO REPORTED 175 ACCELERATIONS OF 2002 CAMRYS – FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE WHEN WILL TOYOTA WAKE UP?

  7. A note to all Toyota owners… PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL!!

Another note to Toyota owners… Stop speeding or otherwise driving recklessly & blaming your gas pedal!

If you listen to this news story on one of the radio stations, you will hear the reporter & police hint to a question of if this was really a stuck pedal.

  8. #9 is an absolute GENIOUS. see #10 thats me also an ELUI SHEAIN KAMOHU. ME? 10 yr Kollel man who is a professionel programmer, with 5 employees .I get the programes and the 5 employees??? wife, parents, inlaws. SHOIN!!!!!!!!

  9. ravizzy, the New York Crimes is a left-wing rag which practices political correctness to the point of lying. What the New York Crimes report doesn’t even merit mention inside a bathroom.

  10. I wish that the public was as alarmed about the dangers of not getting their children vaccinated as they are about Toyotas. In all, there have been fewer than 40 deaths from Toyota malfunctions. To many, to be sure. But the H1N1 virus alone has caused more than 11,000 deaths worldwide. And yet many people thought there was no reason to get themselves and their children protected from this killer. Some people, so fearful of the extremely rare side effects of some vaccines, refuse to vaccinate their children against any childhood disease (risking not just their children, but any infants their children might expose before the infants are old enough to get shots). Lets start doing something about really serious problems.
