Greenfield Gets To Work To Work Before Being Sworn In – Delays Tree Pruning On Pesach

Brooklyn – Less than three days after being elected to the New York City Council, Councilman-elect David Greenfield has hit the ground running. Greenfield was contacted by residents of 55th Street just hours before Shabbos this past Friday, who said the Parks Department posted signs for a scheduled tree pruning from 11th Avenue to 13th Avenue during the first Tuesday of Pesach. The tree pruning operation would force drivers to move hundreds of cars on Pesach – an action which is impermissible under Jewish law. Alternatively, cars that remain parked are traditionally towed away.

Greenfield, due to his previous relationship with the Parks Department, was able to get immediate action and have the tree pruning delayed until after the religious holiday.

“I want to thank Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Julius Spiegel for quickly accommodating the religious needs of the residents of 55th Street allowing them to have a true ‘chag kasher v’sameach’ (kosher and happy passover holiday),” said Greenfield.

  1. I did not vote for ‘Reb’ Duvid, but I gotta give it to him. This is a big favor for the residents who live in that area and shows that David will take care of things even as trivial as this.

  2. Impressive. Sounds like a guy with good intentions, who is able and willing to act on them. But are we going to be receiving updates from YWN about every move Greenfield makes?

  3. Just wondering – if Simcha Felder or Dov Hikind was the one doing this, would YWN be reporting it? Somehow I only see stories about Greenfield…

  4. MW13, YWN isn’t the one that’s posting this to do sort of a repentance for ignoring Greenfield for a couple of months. YWN is reporting this as a message to the community: Have a problem? There’s a number you can call. Someone is out there to help you. And yes, this is somewhat different than in the past. Simcha was a great councilman, but this is something different. As David stated, he will be the pothole councilman. Have a minor problem? Don’t be shy to give him a call.

You said Hikind? Well, I’m sure that in Shomron he makes sure they get pruned on time. After all he’s the one that planted them… But we’re talking about Boro Park now!

  5. mw13 this story is on every Jewish news site. You obviously have something against Greenfield and this website. Grow up!

  6. #5- YWN was “ignoring Greenfield for a couple of months”? I must have missed it. Doing a search for “Greenfield” in the YWN search bar shows a story on March 26th, March 25th, March 24th, 2 stories on March 23, 3 stories on March 22, 1 on March 19, 3 on 17, etc. A similar search for Hikind, however, shows only two stories in the past month with Hikind’s name in the title: “Political Insiders: Hikind’s Power Oversold” March 24, and “Brooklyn: $1M Fund For Hikind’s Plans To Fight Abuse Hasn’t Been Used” March 11. All other metions of Hikind are only seen in reference to Hikind’s backing of Joe Lazar over David Greenfield.

#6 – Yes, I’m not saying that this phenomenon is limited to YWN. I just find it interesting to see so much coverage of Greenfield and so little coverage of other frum politicians throughout the frum media.

Moderators Response: Once again, YWN posts every single press release issued to us from Simcha Felder, and Dov Hikind that we are sent. Period.
The press releases you mentioned from Mr. Greenfield are from his campaign, and this one is only his first as Councilman-Elect.

  7. Oh, and to #6 – I have absolutely nothing against Greenfield. I think he is a great person and a great politician, and I have high hopes for him. Ditto for YWN. I just find it interesting to see so much coverage of Greenfield compared to other frum politicians.

Moderators Response: YWN posted every single press release from Simcha Felder and Dov Hikind that has been sent to us.

  8. Moderator – I was not accusing YWN being deliberately pro-Greenfield. I was simply commenting on the incredible press coverage and hype that the Greenfield campaign has captured. I actually see similarities between the Greenfield and Obama campaigns – both came out of nowhere, challenged the set political system, and received tremendous press coverage and a devoted following. Obviously Greenfield is BH nothing like Obama in person or in positions, I just think there are interesting political parallels.

  9. I still want to know what Councilman-elect David Greenfield will do to stop the greedy gravy train, where the politicians keep saying they will “bring home the funds” from the city and state and feberal revenues -for a few special interest groups, while all the rest of get soaked with the ever increasing cost of living, to pay for it?
