His wife was Niftar a year ago while they were on a visit to Eretz Yisroel. His Hasmodoh in Limud Hatorah was a lesson to many yungerleit here in Lakewood. 1. Baruch Dayan Ha’Emes. It would be helpful if you tried to obtain a picture of the Niftar whenever you post such a posting (May it not be often) so that people may see who it is that you are posting about.

  2. Rabbi Wehl was a Talmid Chochom godol who wrote a classic perush on Maseches Shkolim- many have become familiar with this perush in the most recent cycle of Daf Yomi- His mother a”h was well known but those who knew his father can testify as to the unusual ehrlichkeit that he had-

  3. Rabbi Wehl’s mother, Dr. Selma Wehl was a pediatrician in Boro Park for over SIXTY years. She treated patients regularly even at age NINETY+. But it was her legendary concern for her patients, and indeed concern for her fellow Jews in general, that she was most famous for. The book “House Calls to Eternity” written by her only child, R’ Ya’akov z”l, was published by ArtScroll in the early ’90s and describes in great detail the life of this unassuming tzadekes.
Rabbi Ya’akov Wehl was an educator par excellence and a first rate Talmid Chochom. He does not need my haskama. He was a Daf Yomi maggid shiur for many many years. He also wrote and published many Seforim. I am aware of his Seforim on Chagiga, Meilah and Temurah where he clarifies and explains every single concept in order to help those learning Daf Yomi (and anyone else). I am sure there are other volumes on other Masechtos as well.
He also used to give Shiurim in Bais Ya’akov High School on Haggada Shel Pesach. This was the basis of his Sefer on Haggada entitled: Ki Yishalcha Bincha. Artscroll published it in English under the title: The Haggada with Answers. Due to its great popularity it has been reprinted numerous times.
About 5-6 years ago Rabbi Wehl retired and moved to Lakewood with his wife Hadassah A”H. In Lakewood Rabbi Wehl was quite busy writing more Seforim as well as giving a Daf Yomi shiur. He was truly an inspiration to behold to see him day in and day out keeping to a rigorous learning schedule as if he were a new yungerman.
    He will be sorely missed.
    Yehi Zichro Boruch.

  4. Rabbi Wehl’s Haggadah is called “Haggadah With Answers” by Artscroll and the book about his mother (who happened to be me first doctor many years ago) is called “House Calls To Eternity”, also by Artscroll.

  5. Anyone who had Rabbi Wehl as a teacher in his many years at HANC experienced someone with unbelievable dedication to Jewish education. He spoke about torah topics to teenagers on Long Island that while today might seem quite regular but at the time very alien and contraversial. He was a presence that alot of people did not understand and did not appreciate. He also made hundreds if not thousands of boys and girls from Nassau County frum. These people are now adults raising their own families who are dedicated to living frum lives.
Purim was a time that he would bring his stundents from HANC to BP for a glimpse into his world and hopefully have a little of it rub off on them.
Ask around to anyone who went to HANC and they will certainly remember Rabbi Yaakov Wehl. Yehi Zichro L’Baracha
