De Blasio Calls For Investigation Into Arrest Of Councilman At West Indian Day Parade

Following the arrest of Council Member Jumaane Williams along with a member of Public Advocate Bill De Blasio’s staff , YWN recieved the following emailed statement from Bill De Blasio:

“This afternoon, my Director of Community Affairs, Kirsten John Foy was arrested alongside Council Member Jumaane Williams while attempting to exit the parade to attend a gathering at the Brooklyn Museum. No charges were filed. I am very concerned that the officers escalated this situation needlessly, even as two public servants were trying to show identification. I am calling for an investigation to get to the bottom of any police misconduct that occurred.”

  1. The city is turning the police into criminals by giving them quotas to fill. Police are supposed to uphold the law and protect the citizens, not become money-making machines for the city. The two roles are contradictory. You can’t be a good cop and fill quotas by issuing summonses illegally. When I was a kid we were taught that a policeman is our friend and a community helper. That is clearly no longer true. What a pity!
