Dems Panic: Dump Half-Million For Weprin

National Democrats are running ads hoping to prevent an embarrassing loss in a special congressional election in New York next week.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Thursday it would begin an ad campaign attacking Republican candidate Bob Turner in the 9th Congressional District. The seat was vacated in June, when Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned in a scandal.

Democrat David Weprin was expected to win easily. But polls show a close contest ahead of Tuesday’s special election.

The committee says it’s spending about half a million dollars on the ads. They won’t run on Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Many voters in the New York City district say they disapprove of President Barack Obama’s economic policies. Turner has pledged to change course if elected.

  1. Just saw some of the tv ads really embarrassing stuff, their main thing being the New York Times endorsement which is reason enough to vote for Turner.

  2. Save your money, Weprin is going to loose anyway, he voted for the repulsive gay marriage bill and lost all the frum votes, G-d comes first and foremost politics should be a distance 2nd

  3. The Democrats should panic. If the election is even reasonably close, it will suggest that all their “safe” districts are now “in play.” As it is, many groups that are solid big-spending liberals in economic matters (Orthodox Jews, Blacks, Hispanics, arguably Roman Catholics in general, etc.), also tend to be social conservatives – meaning that if they become disillusioned with the Democrat’s economic policies, they might shift suddenly (switch back in the case of Blacks and Jews) to the Republicans. These are “interesting” times.
