Israel Police: Whose Side Are They On Anyway?

The Honenu organization released additional information regarding Friday’s fatal rock-throwing attack in the Hebron district that claimed the lives of Asher (25) Pamer and his infant son Yonatan HY”D.

It appears that after the murders of the two, a Kiryat Arba couple close to the niftar headed to Yerushalayim, where Asher’s wife Puah was waiting, to notify her as to what occurred. Immediately following the murderous attack, despite evidence on the scene confirming the terror attack, police and IDF officials announced the deaths were due to a one-vehicle accident.

The husband, Shai, who served in the IDF’s elite Sayeret Matkal unit, found himself in a similar situation, fearing for his life and his wife’s, firing his weapon in the air on their way to Yerushalayim. Baruch Hashem, unlike with Asher, Shai succeeded in scaring away his attackers, Arutz-7 reports. Their vehicle sustained light damage as a result of the rocks hurled at them but there were no injuries, not to mention fatalities R”L.

Shai reported the incident to the moked emergency dispatcher, as regulations require, arriving back at home in Kiryat Arba shortly before Shabbos. Amazingly, four police cars arrived at his home after Shabbos began and the policemen insisted that he brief them on his incident. He explained the Arabs didn’t back down and he realized that he and his wife were in perilous danger. Once again, Shai is a veteran of the nation’s most elite infantry reconnaissance unit, well trained in the use of weapons, including a handgun. Police informed him that since it was already Shabbos he was not being brought to the police station, but he was instructed to appear immediately after Shabbos ends.

Immediately after Shabbos Shai contacted Honenu, telling of the events that transpired. He was given instructions as how to act and what to say by attorney Adi Kedar. Shai was questioned ‘under warning’, signaling a criminal indictment was likely. His wife was summoned to give her statement as well, on Sunday. Once again, he fired his weapon in the air in self-defense to distance attackers, and there were no injuries resulting from the gunfire.

Honenu officials are accustomed to such instances, lamenting the reality that one who fires a weapon in self-defense shortly after a dear friend and neighbor was murdered in the same area, under the same circumstances, is now a suspect and faces criminal prosecution.

MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Yaakov Katz responded with a statement. “The questioning of this tzaddik is a continuation of the policies of the nation’s defense establishment leadership, and the constant abuse of the 400,000 residents of Yehuda and Shomron…”

MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Dr. Michael Ben-Ari added “There are elements in Israel Police who believe they have become an arm of the PA (Palestinian Authority) police. A Jew who defends his life and that of his wife should actually receive a award and not summoned for questioning under warning. It is unfortunately that he did not eliminate the rock-throwers. Painfully, we have learned through the infant Yonatan Pamer and his father HY”D that rocks do indeed kill”.

  1. Isn’t it great to be an “am chofshi” under Zionist rule?
I wonder if the portion of the tefillos of the Yamim Noraim, “Ki saavir memsheles zadon min haaretz”, is of any relevance?

Not only did the Zionists fail to protect this Kiryat Arba family from the savages, they lied that it was an accident, and now they arrest this elite soldier for defending his own life in the same circumstances as the story indicates.

That sounds like a swell answer to the Dreyfuss affair, the tragically flawed justification for the conception of Zionism. That’ll show the nations how good the Jews are at protecting their own…they let the savages murder this Kiryat Arba couple the prosecute the Jews who stick up for themselves. Dreyfuss must be proud! Not.

Kisiva Vachasima Tova to all of Klal Yisrael.

  2. In all fairness, we need to remember that in America the professional police developed out of citizen’s patrol led by the locally elected sheriff, and police in America, even arrogant or corrupt ones, understand the the function of the police is to serve and protect the people who are paying their salaries.

The Israeli police are derived from the British police, which were always imposed from on top, especially in the Empire, and always had a primary job of keeping the people in line. To an American, that totally weird (but America is exceptional – most police in the world are the “keep the people in line types” rather than the “serve and protect” types that we Americans want our police to be.

Given that the Jews in the West Bank (as well as Orthodox Jews in general) are clearly out of line from the perspective of those who rule Israel, the police’s attitude is to be expected.
