Brooklyn: DA Hynes Slams NY Post Article Which Claimed His Office Ignore Tix-Fix Scandal

The story in Sunday’s NY Post that I am ducking the NYPD ticket fixing scheme for political reasons is utter nonsense and simply doesn’t have any basis in fact. The Internal Affairs Bureau of the NYPD has not referred a single case of ticket fixing to my office.

For the Post to suggest that I make decisions to investigate and prosecute police officers because of my concern about political fallout is particularly vacuous since currently there is a Narcotics Detective on trial in Brooklyn charged with corruption. To imply that my office makes charging decisions guided by political considerations is particularly baseless, since we have convicted and sent to prison Clarence Norman Jr. The Kings County Democratic County Chairman and Deputy Speaker of NY State Assembly as well as another Assembly Member Diane Gordon and two State Supreme Court Justices; Victor Barron and Gerald Garson.

Over the years I have never, ever hesitated to prosecute corrupt cops or any other crooked public officials where there was evidence of a crime. Today’s Post reports that cases of ticket fixing were referred to my office “were looked into but not worth prosecuting” is completely false.
