Dozens of pairs of tefillin and tashmishei kodesh were stolen from shuls and yeshivos in Kiryat Vishnitz in Bnei Brak over recent weeks. Police were on the case but seemed unsuccessful in efforts to apprehend the thief.
It appears that neighborhood residents began suspecting one person, an outsider who was seen with increased frequency in the community, until last week they actually stopped him and began questioning him. He denied any connection to the missing tashmishei kodesh, but after the questions continued, it is reported he confessed, admitting to being the thief.
According to a Kikar Shabbat report, talmidim accompanied the man to his Ramat Gan home where they found the tashmishei kodesh cache. While police were summoned, the talmidim did not wait around and they took the stolen tefillin and left, and are still seeking to contact the owners of the stolen religious items.

“While police were summoned, the talmidim did not wait around and they took the stolen tefillin and left, and are still seeking to contact the owners of the stolen religious items.” Now that’s intelligent…just about guarantees no prosecution.
