Interior Minister (Shas) Eli Yisrael has signed the order giving the green light for the construction of the new chareidi city of Charish, located in the Nachal I’ron area, commonly referred to in the mainstream media as Wadi Ara. The first neighborhood will include 6,000 housing units.
The master plan calls for the housing units as well as the necessary infrastructure and services for a chareidi tzibur. This includes but is not limited to public buildings, parks, religious buildings schools, stores and public transportation.
With continued development of ‘Kvish 6’ (Highway 6/Yitzchak Rabin Highway), Charish will be easily accessible by car. The beginning of construction follows a long battle, which includes staunch opposition to the placement of a chareidi community in the area, which is currently a stronghold for the Israeli Arab population.
