Study: Nearly 25 Percent Of Adults In NYS Suffer From Obesity


On out of every four adults in New York State is obese, according to a national survey released Monday by the feds.

New York came in at 24.5% in figures of the not-so-svelte from 2011 that were compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The study found that more than a third of adults nationwide were obese. Colorado had the lowest rate of obesity, at just under 21%. Mississippi was highest, with nearly 35% of the adult population weighing in as belt-busters. Twelve states had obesity rates highter than 30%.

  1. Baruch ha-Shem. Many of our families came to America in order to find food (refugees from famines, survivors of concentration camps, etc.). Indeed, a problem maybe that a lot of our cuisine is based on the assumption of a need to get adequate calories (since inadequate calories is inevitably fatal – you starve to death). If people are concerned about being obese, they should eat less. Medical intervention is not required.
