The Government Must Decide Regarding Iran

Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday, in Knesset addressed the unprecedented threat to Israel from Iran. Barak made it very clear, stating that dealing with Iran has risks, and Israel cannot predict the outcome, but whatever the case, a decision must and will be made by the government and not by the people and even not be the editorials seeking to influence the nation.

Responding to accusations from opposition leader MK Shaul Mofaz, Barak stated that “in the last generation, there is not another matter that was discussed and probed as comprehensively as the Iran issue”.

Barak reiterated the seriousness of the Iranian threat, the need for the government to reach critical decisions, and the fact that the matter is being handled with unprecedented responsibility. He added that whatever the risks may be, they will be considerably increased if Israel has to contend with a nuclear Iran.
