Jordan And Egypt Call On The US Not To Recognize Jerusalem As Israel’s Capital

Both the foreign ministers of Jordan and Egypt have warned the United States not to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, as President Trump reportedly plans to do.

According to a Ynet report, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi tweeted that he had spoken to US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson about the dangerous consequences of such a move. Egypt’s Foreign Minister has reportedly spoken with Tillerson as well.

Safadi adds that such a declaration will result in anger in the international Islamic community and it will lead to new tensions and further distance chances of Mideast peace.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit joined in, warning the US such a move will not serve to advance regional peace efforts but have quite the opposite effect.

President Donald Trump last week announced that he plans to make the announcement on Wednesday, 18 Kislev, recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel.

Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked is calling on President Trump to go ahead with the planned move. She made her comments at an American Friends of Beit El dinner in the USA, citing we are marking 100 years since the Balfour Declaration, which was a dramatic turning point in the chronicle of Zionism.

However, reports quoting Jared Kushner indicated President Trump is still undecided regarding the planned announcement.
