Bill de Blasio Releases “One New York, Rising Together” Booklet

Bill de Blasio today released “One New York, Rising Together,” a comprehensive book of policy proposals that will reverse New York City’s growing economic divide through progressive reforms and renewed investments in education, small businesses, and affordable housing. The policy book will be available for download on iTunes, Kindle, Nook, and Google Play soon.

“One New York, Rising Together” offers a roadmap for true progressive reform under a de Blasio administration. De Blasio’s book focuses on restructuring current investments to ease the economic burden off working- and middle-class families, and increasing taxes on wealthy New Yorkers to strengthen the city’s education system.

“In so many ways, New York has become a Tale of Two Cities — where the wealthiest have access to luxury housing and schools, and the rest of New Yorkers are struggling to afford basic necessities,” said de Blasio. “Addressing the crisis of inequality isn’t a small task — but if we are to thrive as a city, it must be at the very center of our vision for the next four years. As Mayor, I’ll spend every waking moment fighting to bring opportunity to every single New Yorker.”

Bill de Blasio’s plan to reverse the city’s growing income disparity and invest in the next generation of New Yorkers will:

Dramatically expand affordable housing units throughout the five boroughs.

Impose a tax on the wealthiest New Yorkers to fund early childhood and after-school programs.

Reform discriminatory policing tactics that weaken police-community relations.

Protect income and food security for low-income New Yorkers.

Ensure all students are reading at grade level by third-grade.

Offer a universal ID card to all city residents, including undocumented immigrants.

Combine education, smarter streets and stronger enforcement to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on our streets to zero.

Create a world-class citywide Bus Rapid Transit network with over 20 lines linking underserved communities to the city’s primary transportation and employment hubs.

Harness the power of the purse to promote energy efficiency and create green jobs.

Set a goal of Zero Waste in New York City.

Replace corporate giveaways with investments in emerging industries and the underfunded CUNY system.
