A Victory for the Bnei Torah Party

Bnei Torah partyBnei Torah officials, the litvish party that is the break away from Degel Hatorah blames Degel for the effort to disqualify it from using the letter ‘ayin’ as its election code. Earlier this week YWN-ISRAEL reported that Arab MK Sarsour sent a letter to the Jerusalem Election Committee objecting to the use of the letter.

Bnei Torah officials point out that Sarsour was asked in advance and he agreed, and he later reversed his decision under pressure from Degel. The officials point out that their proof is that the letter ayin, which is connected to Sarsour’s party is not the issue, for the Tov party in Yerushalayim is also using an ayin yet Sarsour did not object to it. (Tov’s election code is עד, ayin and daled).

Whatever the case may be, Bnei Torah scored a victory as both the Bnei Brak and Yerushalayim Election Committee voted to permit using the ayin and tzaddik, and it may remain with its letters, עץ. The election committee officials informed election committee members who challenged the Bnei Torah code letters to take their case to the district court no later than 17 days before the elections, Thursday, 29 Tishrei 5774.

Following are some of the Bnei Torah election flyers being distributed around town.
