BEWARE: Dangerous ‘Candies’ Floating Around Jewish Neighborhoods and Homes

Two families in the Flatbush area narrowly avoided tragedy this past shabbos when their children ate what appeared to be innocent candies that were in fact marijuana edibles.

The children, seeing the “candies” lying around and believing them to be shabbos party, ingested them. According to estimates, the children ingested four times the amount that is safe – for an adult. The results were terrifying.

The children who ate the “candies” wound up in the emergency room, with some of them unresponsive for hours. Even now, despite having regained consciousness and being discharged from the hospital, some of the children are still not fully back to themselves.

This story can truly happen to anyone. These candies are legal and easily accessible. If you or anyone you know is in possession of such “candies,” be sure to carefully mark them and keep them far away from children.

Not doing so could have tragic consequences.

  1. Was there a hechsher? If there wasn’t a hechsher and they have treife products floating around their home, then the family has much worse problems. If there was a hechsher, what unscrupulous agency would give a hechsher to such a product?

  2. What is “BEWARE: Dangerous”, “narrowly avoided tragedy”, and “could have tragic consequences” referring to? There is no medical risk with ingesting marijuana candies and there is no such thing as overdosing. What is all this fear mongering about?

  3. YWN is trying to add drama to the story by pretending that marijuana-laced candies (obviously without a hechsher) are floating around near your kids. Bizarre.

  4. Ask any medical professional specializing in substance abuse: it is highly unlikely to die from an overdose of THC. In fact, it is highly unlikely there will be any long-term or permanent damage to these children. However, their parents need to either give up their nasty habit or give the kids up to be brought up by responsible adults.

  5. YWN, this story was posted this morning elsewhere too. Neither they nor you named the problematic candy. Please tell us which candy it was otherwise this notification/warning is frivolous and just serves to frighten us all.

  6. Was there any investigative journalism done on this, or is it just a marginally rephrased version of the copypasta going around Jewish whatsapp :

Hi everyone! Please do not respond to this post. At risk of criticism and judgement, I wanted to inform our neighborhood that this past shabbos was quite traumatic for two families families. Baruch Hashem my house is very busy on shabbos and people come and go. This past shabbos Edible candy marijuana some how made it into my home. The children thought it was candy as it was unmarked snd unidentifiable and ate it thinking it was shabbos party. We are beyond grateful to hkbh that our girls are home asleep in their beds tonight as last night it was not clear that would be the case. The effects were horrific. They ended up in the emergency room. Some unresponsive for hours. And even after regaining consciousness they are not themselves yet. These are little
Children that had 4 times the amount adults should have. Just because it looks and tasted like candy. This can happen to anyone. It is legal and easily accessible now adays, it is important than if you or anyone you know possesses it, you carefully mark it (My husband and myself did not know what it was) and keep it far away from children. In addition it is important for everyone to be aware that this is a problem and to be vigilant with your children. I hope that this can save anyone from the heartache we felt and the repercussions we are dealing with now.

  7. For those who are asking about the edibles, it is very possible that they had certification. The other point I would like to make is if these edibles were masqueraded in the pictures above, namely of the tricks cereal, the puff cereal, then please know that those have reliable certification. If they weren’t and those were just pictures that were attached, all you are doing is gaslighting!

As for edibles and and then being around, if you people keep voting for the left and their leftist ideology, this is what happens. Remember it was the left that approved this stuff. And I know you’re going to have people saying no it’s this is the wrong part of the the plant. I’m not interested in the stories anymore. You can make your excuses and you could say what you want. The bottom line is ืื™ื–ื”ื• ื—ื›ื ื”ืจื•ืื” ืืช ื”ื ื•ืœื“ certainly does not apply to the left the way everyone else wants to see the future

  8. The candies are referred to as “medicated candy” or “medicated cereal”. There are online instructions that people have used to attractively package the stuff.
Mars/Wrigley is suing one seller of Skittles for trademark infringement – that particular product is marked as sold out on at least one site. There has been earlier coverage of this issue in Chicago.

  9. Dear ACC. Are you a Rav or. Poisek? There are people that benefit from Marijuana there are cancer patients or people in chronic pain people with seizure disorders among other things. Those people keep kosher too and need a hashgocho. It is a bit short sighted and condescending to make a comment as to โ€œ If there was a hechsher, what unscrupulous agency would give a hechsher to such a product?โ€

  10. Just to clarify, are you guys suggesting that there ARE some marijuana edibles WITH a good chasideshe hashgacha, or any hashgacha for that matter?

  11. It is impossible to die from Marijuana. It can not cross the barrier to the part of the brain that controls breathing and pulse.

  12. I am utterly shocked by this story.
I am personally going thru trauma with a family member that had a very similar story last week.
While being in a hotel getaway for the weekend my 6 year old niece ate a a edible “marijuana” cookie and fainted, the family called hatzolah and she was hospitalized for a few days with shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. The Dr’s told my sister that she got very lucky that it didn’t turn out worse.
Please do not take this for granted as I personally thought this might have been an isolated incident, after seeing this article I am very troubled of this new reality and danger to our children.

  13. As usual for any story involving criticism of marijuana drugs, the Pot head Addicts in the community post Comments defending the Pot.

The OU gives Hashkacha on these Pot products. They say itโ€™s for critically ill people in severe pain. Well we all know many more Teens , young adults and adults taking these are not stage 4 cancer patients, nor ill at all.
