Senior PA Negotiator Erekat: Palestine will be Settler Free

erekatWhile there are rumors Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu foresees Israelis living under Palestine rule, senior PA (Palestinian Authority) negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat sees the situation a bit differently. He states on Sunday 25 Shevat 5774 that he does not believe Jews wishing to live under Palestinian rule should be permitted to do so. From Erekat’s perspective, the two are mutually exclusive for there cannot be a Palestinian state that includes “settlers”, his term for residents of Yehuda and Shomron.

Erekat’s comments are in line with the vision of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), Israel’s negotiating partner, one viewed by Israel and the USA as “a moderate”. Abu Mazen’s viewpoint is well known and the PA leader made a point of reiterating his position during the recent visit to Ramallah by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

  1. He reminds me of Meir Kahana who said that all of the Arabs should be thrown out of Israel. We had our change, now it’s too late, or is it?

  2. If Jews (settlers or otherwise) want to be able to live in places such as Hevron and Shechem and East Jerusalem, they better be willing to make an offer the consider reasonable – which probably would involves agreeing that in all of Eretz Yisrael the Arabs will be in charge (albeit with a well armed autonomous Jewish minority). From the Arab perspective, it is bad enough they have been driven out of most of Eretz Yisrael (or if they stayed, made into second class citizens – foreigners in a country they had lived in for far longer than Americans have lived in America) .

  3. Sadat Egypt stopped fighting with Israel on condition that Egypt would not give up “one inch of Arab land” (referring to Yamit, a beautiful seaside Jewish settlement). Israel won every war and lost every peace by giving back land. No wonder there were so many wars.
