The media is reporting that Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto is on the verge of closing a deal with the state prosecutor that will result in a less severe indictment against him. The deal reported will compel the rabbi to face charges of bribing senior police officer Brigadier-General Ephraim Bracha but some of the other charges will be omitted. The deal also includes a paragraph that the state will only seek a brief jail term if he is convicted, and that the defense attorney will seek probation without any jail time. It also permits Rebitzen Pinto to escape without an indictment against her despite reports she was allegedly a major player in illegal activities.
If the state decides to indict Ephraim Arbiv, the former commander of Israel�s FBI, Israel Police 433 Unit, who was compelled to step down due to allegations against him in the Pinto affair, then Rabbi Pinto may enjoy additional deal-making in exchange for testimony against Arbiv.

Dear Editor,
You are reporting a plea bargain – i.e., harav Pinto will plead guilty to the charge of attempting to bribe Bracha. Your report implies that there is a chance that he may not be convicted on that charge. There is no question whether or not he will be convicted on that charge – he is agreeing to be convicted. The only remaining question will be the severity of his sentence.
If harav Pinto actually enters into the contemplated plea-bargain it remains to be seen how he will reconcile his admission of guilt and subsequent conviction with his earlier statement that: �If I have bribed anyone I am willing to remove my fedora and from now on, I am not a rav.�
