In the wake of a historic performance on the part of France’s right-wing National Front party in the recent local elections, Jewish groups have expressed their dissatisfaction with the results, the Jewish Telegraph Agency has reported. These groups have blamed the record low voter turn-out at the elections for the surprising results.  The National Front party won a record 11 mayoral positions in Sunday’s local elections while a disgruntled French electorate saw an estimated abstention rate of 38.5%.

The National Front party, despite having attempted to moderate its positions prior to the recent elections, has a reputation for racism and xenophobia. Most notably, Jean-Marie Le Pen, the party’s founder and father of the party’s current head, Marine Le Pen, was a known anti-Semite and holocaust denier.

While analysts are likely to view the success of the far-right in France as simply a response to the poor performance of the ruling Socialist party, Jews in France cannot help but feel a sense of alarm when a party with clear anti-Semitic leanings scores a dramatic electoral success.

  1. you mean israel because here it’s also getting worrisome. i don’t know what french jews are waiting for. that’s all they have to lose is money and they can rebuild in israel and with HASHEMS’ help they will succeed.

  2. To be fair, 38.5% non-participation is better than the US.

Marine Le Pen has definitely toned down the vile anti-Semitism for which her father was famous. Some might argue that this is putting lipstick on a pig, and I would agree with them completely.

  3. “The French Jews should move to America.”

Not possible. There are hundreds of thousands of Jews in France and the immigration quota is far too low. We need immigration reform that includes a massive increase in legal immigration levels.

  4. Why do we keep calling these hate groups “far right” look at their political campaigns, what they advocate for is very far left, but simply b/c they are hate groups they get labeled with the right and the free-market supporters? Remember the Nazis is short for National Socialists and many of those hate parties are far left wing in politics.

Stop using the left-wing media term that is used to slur conservatives by lumping them in with the refuse of the left

  5. are these groups really what we call right? or do they have any authoritarian tendencies? most anti Semites believe in some form of authoritarianism.

  6. “what they advocate for is very far left”

    Uh, no. Read their platforms.

“the Nazis is short for National Socialists”

Bringing a proof from Nazi propaganda??? The Nazis were not socialists; in fact every single socialist member of the Reichstag voted against giving Hitler y”s dictatorial powers in March 1933.
