NYC: Group Urges State Lawmakers to Lower City Speed Limit

nyctCalls are once again growing for Albany to lower the city’s speed limit.

Transportation advocates and families of traffic accident victims want the state to pass a bill bringing the city’s speed limit down from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour.

They say the difference will lead to a significant reduction in traffic-related deaths.

But critics are concerned about increased traffic, more ticketing, and the added cost of putting up signs displaying the new speed limit.

Supporters of the bill hope to get it passed soon.

State lawmakers are set to end their current session on June 19.
