Hikind Outraged At Shaimos Dumped In Boro Park After Yom Kippur – 30 Pair Of Tefillin And Chumashim Found Dumped

h1

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) was appalled to learn that once again unscrupulous people dumped a large quantity of shaimos in Boro Park. Hikind received the call on Monday evening that large quantities of shaimos had been abandoned on 48th Street and 18th Avenue, and several members of his staff investigated, then spent hours boxing up the abandoned shaimos so it could be properly disposed of. The abandoned shaimos included more than 30 pair of tefillin, as well as Gemorahs and Chumashim.

“To see such a sight just days after Yom Kippur is just sickening,” said Assemblyman Hikind. “For years I have been warning our community to be careful about who shaimos is given to and I must repeat that warning again. Just looking upon these bags of tefillin and Chumashim tossed on the ground along with bags of garbage is heartbreaking. We must find a way to address this issue and I will continue to working with our community rabbonim to come up with a solution.”

  1. Why cant they catch who ever is doing this with all the “security” cameras they have installed on “our” behalf?

  2. Very unusual for boxes or even a truckload of shaimos to have 30 pairs of tefillin. Could it be that someone stole the bosex and dumped them when they found that the contents were not salable?

I know Hikind is quick with a photo op or a press release, but after investigation he will find that this was something other than someone collecting shaimos and dumping it in his district.

  3. The answer may be fairly easy. If the tefillin bags have names, trace the owner. Ask them who they have them to. If a couple of the people say the same place, you have your answer.
