NYPD Commissioner Bratton: Turning Backs On Mayor Was ‘Very Inappropriate’

c

New York City’s police commissioner says it was “very inappropriate” for officers to turn their backs on the mayor in a sign of disrespect as he spoke at an officer’s funeral.

Commissioner William Bratton appeared Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation” and defended Mayor Bill de Blasio. He says de Blasio is “totally supportive” of officers.

On Saturday, hundreds of police officers standing outside the church where Officer Rafael Ramos’ funeral was held turned their backs as de Blasio eulogized him.

Ramos and his partner were shot and killed a week ago in a brazen daylight attack on their patrol car. The mayor has been portrayed by some critics as too supportive of protesters who have been criticizing police.

Bratton also spoke on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

  1. DeBlasio & friends should have realized that when they denounced the police as murderous criminals, some of their supporters would have done the logical thing one does with murderous criminals. Under Israeli law (which lacks protection of free speech), De Blasio and his allies could be charged with “incitement” (other that for the fact that the Israeli incitement law is only applied to politically incorrect right wingers).

  2. Inappropriate? Easy for Bratton to say! Bratton no longer goes out on patrol every day, to protect citizens, and deal with deranged violent criminals, hoping to come home alive at the end of the workday.

  3. He most say so. I don’t think it was an easy thing for the commissioner to say. He respects the NYPD but after all DE Blasio is his boss and he most say something so he did.
