Dr. Caldron: Yesh Atid is Actualizing Rav Kook’s Vision

lapThe Yesh Atid party appears quite serious about attracting religious voters. After the party announced its new dati leumi faction and planned ads in dati leumi newspapers and Shabbos handout sheets, party MK Dr. Ruth Calderon spoke out and her words clearly reflected the party’s new target, the dati leumi tzibur.

During an election assembly in Yerushalayim addressing youths, Dr. Calderon said “Yesh Atid has religious and non-religious members who tackle matters of religion and state in depth. This in my opinion is the realization of the vision of Rav Kook, who called for real integration between those who wear kippot and those who do not”. Dr. Calderon made her remarks on a panel in Machon Lev. Also in attendance were Bayit Yehudi MK Ayelet Shaked and party hopeful Betzalel Smotrich.

The party has launched its dati leumi faction in the hope of taking votes from Bayit Yehudi, which the polls show remains steady at 16 seats. This faction includes Shai Piron, Elazar Stern, and Dr. Aliza Lavie.

  1. Rav Kook shuddered at the kefirah being taught at Hebrew U. and regretted his attendance at the founding ceremony,
he would have pulled his hair out at Yesh Atid

Rav Kook was opposed to womens’ involement in politics,

    so

Dr. Ruth Calderon what are you doing there ?

  2. Rav Kook was from the Kedoshei Elyon. A talmid chochom of great stature and tzadik of mass proportions. This, however, is precisely what his opponents were afraid of. Learn his seforim. Live the Torah he so loved and cherished and fought for. But don’t distort his outlook.

  3. The Sabbah Kadisha, Maran rav Shlomo eliezer Alafandi said about the Choffetz Chaim’s plan of making Aliyah the following. It won’t happen. Why? Because if he were to then the chofetz chaim would have arbitrated shalom between Rav Kook and the Yishuv Hayashan and this the satan would not allow. All of the chillul hashem that transpires today because of the misunderstood positions of Rav Kook is the work of Satan.

    all true.

But he was also hopelessly soaring with his head in the clouds,
as many of his earliest and closest associates came to realize.

He himself seemed to be coming to that realization in his his last days

  5. @About Time –
    1) Much of what we “know” about Rav Kook is from the history written by those who disagreed with him.
    2) As has been pointed out, he did not agree with any anti-Torah or even non-Torah observant philosophy or behavior.
    3) He was consumed with love for all and that love ignited a fire in him to try to bring as many back as possible.
    4) He certainly realized some of his mistakes as evidenced by his reaction to the Bible Criticism course taught at HU, commenting that Rav Yosef Chaim could not be fooled.
    5) Nonetheless, he was a tremendous Talmid Chochom and tzadik whom the elders of that generation respected.
