Early Friday morning, at around 3:30AM, the Town of Ramapo Police Department received a report a vehicle fire on Phyllis Terrace in Monsey within the Town of Ramapo. Responding officers and The Monsey Volunteer Fire Dept. responded and discovered a burning garbage truck on the street in front of 25 Phyllis Terrace.

The garbage truck was owned by Countrywide Carting out of Spring Valley N.Y. and it was being operated by a 51 year old male employee, also from Spring Valley. The only reported injury was to the driver who was complaining of pain to his neck and shoulder after he jumped out of the truck. He refused any medical attention at this time.

Monsey F.D. extinguished the fire, and the vehicle was removed by Prestige Towing at the request of the owner.

According to the driver the fire started in the engine compartment which was under the driver/passenger cab.

The Town of Ramapo Highway department also responded to salt the roadway which was frozen over as a result of the water used to extinguish the fire and the extremely cold weather during the overnight.
