Minister Steinitz: Lapid Mustn’t Receive a Senior Cabinet Post

lapidMinister of Intelligence & Strategic Affairs (Likud) Dr. Yuval Steinitz feel that Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid is not suited to serve as a senior member of the cabinet until such time he learns that he must refrain from mocking professionals who have far more knowledge and education than him”.

Steinitz is among the ministers closest to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. He told visitors to a Haaretz website live chat that he does not believe Lapid should serve as a minister in the next government. He added that he is concerned and wants to make sure the next government is stable and does not have to head to elections in another 18 months. Steinitz feels the governmental system is collapsing and a big reason for this is the small and moderate parties, which result in the two largest parties not receiving sufficient votes to form a coalition that is stable.

Steinitz added that while he once supported the concept of a national unity government, today he is not for he feels the current Labor party has strayed too far left, to the point “one might say it has adopted a post Zionist trend” Steinitz stated.

  1. Likud will have to choose between Lapid and the Hareidim, and at the same time, between trying to draft hareidim and (probably) abolishing conscription. Had they chosen to work with the hareidim last time, their coalition would have been stable.
