Senate Republican Majority Leader Dean Skelos is set to be arrested on federal corruption charges next week, which would be the latest blow to a state Legislature that is reeling from a spate of arrests and convictions.
News that Skelos, along with his son Adam, are about to be arrested was reported Friday evening by the New York Times.
It comes three months after Skelos’ Assembly counterpart, longtime Democratic Majority Speaker Sheldon Silver, stepped down from his leadership role after being arrested on corruption charges including accusations that he extorted money from political donors.
This would mean that, this year, leaders of both chambers have been arrested by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who is based in New York’s Southern District.
