Richardson Wins State Assembly Seat In NY Special Election

voteA Democrat running on the Working Families Party line has won the race for the 43rd state Assembly District seat.

With 78 percent of districts reporting, Diana Richardson had 48 percent of the vote, double her nearest competitor.

The district, in heavily Democratic Brooklyn, did not feature a candidate on the Democratic line since the candidate who was chosen by the local party didn’t file the required paperwork on time. Instead, three Democrats ran on other party lines to represent the neighborhoods of Crown Heights and East Flatbush.

Shirley Patterson was on the Independence Party line and Geoffrey Davis ran on the Love Yourself party line.

Democratic state Assemblyman Karim Camara left the position after becoming executive director of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Office of Faith-Based Community Development Services.
