Amid Conflicting Signals, France Expands Search For Debris

malFrench authorities say a week-long operation has begun on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion to search for debris from the doomed MH370 flight, after part of a wing believed to belong to it was found there last week.

The prefect of the French overseas department Dominique Sorain said Friday that a helicopter and water vehicles would scour an area 120 kilometers (75 miles) by 40 kilometers (25 miles) around the east coast of the island — where the 2-meter-long object was originally found.

Sorain said that other objects have been found on the island’s beaches since last week and have been taken away for examination, but he said officials don’t know if these belong to a plane or not.
