Christie, Feds to Discuss How to Fund New Hudson Rail Tunnel

chrisGov. Chris Christie is to meet with federal transportation officials to discuss funding a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River.

Electrical failures caused several delays last month and reignited the debate over building a second tunnel as part of a $14 billion project.

Christie, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have said they need a substantial commitment from the government for them to pledge their own funds.

Port Authority Chairman John Degnan is expected at the meeting, but Cuomo isn’t attending. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx invited him and Christie to meet after the electrical failures, but Cuomo said last week any meeting to discuss the tunnel project was premature.
