Bar-Ilan’s Responsa Project Judaic Library Database includes the largest electronic collection of typed and proofread texts of Jewish literature in the world; it is also one of the greatest Jewish projects carried out in history.

The texts cover thousands of years of writing, from the Bible and the Talmud, through the Midrash and Halacha, the literature of the Geonim, the Rambam (Maimonides), Shulhan Aruch and their commentators, to the Rabbis of our time.

Bar Ilan is so appreciated – there is virtually no Yeshiva that does not have one. Bais Medrash Gevoah, Ponevezh, Yeshiva University – everyone is using and relying on the Bar Ilan Judaic Library in their daily study.

Rabbis across America and around the world, use Bar Ilan in their daily work. It is common for the University to get calls from Rabbis just to say, “Yasher Koach”.

This project, which is one of the brightest jewels in Bar-Ilan University’s crown, commenced approximately 51 years ago has become a veritable treasure that is accessible to all on one tiny micro chip USB which is searchable and printable – truly nothing compares. To view Library click.

  1. I tested in once by looking for some well known anti-zionist tseuvot. As could be expected in a product from Bar Ilan, they weren’t there. So it could better be described as the world’s greatest repository of politically correct, from a religious zionist perspective, Jewish literature.

  2. Declining to publicize the opinions of those who think that there should not be a State of Israel is not derided as “politically correct”? I thought that this is “Yeshiva World News” not “Neturei Karta News” or “Boycott Divestment Sanctions News”.

  3. @akuperma – It is noteworthy that if one would look at the indices of the writings of Rabbi Yoel Teitlebaum one would find numerous entries of titles by authors who did not belong to the same camp so-to-speak as the ADMO”R from Satmar.

  4. The Bar Ilan Responsa Project lists the sources it includes (every edition has added additional sources). If you take a look at the list you will see the tshuvot of noted rabbis such as R’ Chaim Sonnenfeld, who were notably opposed to Zionism. So, despite the claim made by #1 the Bar Ilan Responsa is clearly NOT trying to be ‘politically correct’.

And I might add that while Zionist yeshivas typically hold seforim composed by anti-Zionist Rabbis in their libraries one would search in vain in almost all charedi yeshivas for the seforim of Zionist rabbis. So it seems that this is a case of ‘kol haposel b’mumo posel’
