Chareidi Principals: The Education Ministry Is Not True To Its Word

chedHeads of chareidi schools allege the Education Ministry is not keeping promises made with Yahadut Hatorah and Shas in coalition agreements.

Last week, Shas leader Aryeh Deri turned to Education Minister Naftali Bennet, calling upon him to reinstate the regulations that were in place prior to the tenure of the 19th Knesset and Education Minister Shai Piron. Piron hit the chareidi education system particularly hard with his gezeiros.

Some of Piron’s decisions have already been reversed, including incentive hours but now the ministry is announcing those hours are being eliminated. The principals remind the ministry however that the coalition agreements call for returning to the situation that existed back in 2012, which is not happening.

It is pointed out that Education Minister Bennett was also to have established a committee to address chareidi education and address issues including registration and take steps to reduce the bureaucratic system in place. the committee was never formed and therefore, there are no steps recommended to cut back on the bureaucracy. The committee that was never formed was also to address some budgetary issues for recognized unofficial schools in the chareidi system.

The principals explain they are receiving far less funding per student that all other schools in the nation and this should have been corrected.

Officials in the Education Ministry responded, explaining they remain in contact with the chareidi schools and continue working to advance chareidi edcaution.
