Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has appealed directly to President Barack Obama to halt what the Libyan leader called “an unjust war,” and wished Obama good luck in his bid for re-election next year.
In a rambling, three-page letter to Obama obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, Gadhafi implored Obama to stop the NATO-led air campaign, which the Libyan called an “unjust war against a small people of a developing country.”
“You are a man who has enough courage to annul a wrong and mistaken action,” Gadhafi wrote in the letter that was sent to the State Department and forwarded immediately to the White House, according to a U.S. official who has seen the letter. “I am sure that you are able to shoulder the responsibility for that.”
“To serving world peace … Friendship between our peoples … and for the sake of economic, and security cooperation against terror, you are in a position to keep Nato (NATO) off the Libyan affair for good,” Gadhafi wrote.
White House press secretary Jay Carney confirmed that the White House received a letter from Gadhafi.
Addressing Obama as “our son” and “excellency,” Gadhafi said that his country had been hurt more “morally” than “physically” by the NATO campaign. He
The letter, composed in formal but stilted English, includes numerous spelling and grammatical errors.
“Our dear son, Excellency, Baraka Hussein Abu oumama, your intervention is the name of the U.S.A. is a must, so that Nato (NATO) would withdraw finally from the Libyan affair,” Gadhafi wrote. “Libya should be left to Libyans within the African union frame.”
Gadhafi said his country had already been unfairly subjected to “a direct military armed aggression” ordered by then-President Ronald Reagan, who famously called the leader the “Mad Dog of the Middle East,” in 1986, as well as earlier rounds of U.S. and international sanctions.
Although he listed a litany of complaints, Gadhafi said he bears no ill will toward Obama.
“We have been hurt more morally (than) physically because of what had happened against us in both deeds and words by you,” he wrote. “Despite all this you will always remain our son whatever happened. We still pray that you continue to be president of the U.S.A. We Endeavour and hope that you will gain victory in the new election campaigne.”
The letter, dated April 5, 2011 in Tripoli is signed by “Mu’aumer Qaddaffi, Leader of the Revolution.”

What a haskama!
YWN is being very misleading with the article title. Qaddafi obviously was pandering to our president because he is begging him to stop the attacks on his forces.
I guess no one told Kadaffi that Obama is busy today fulfilling one of his campaign promises – going after fat cat tax cheats, thus his meeting tonight with Al Slim Shady Sharpton ym’sh!!
Qadafi is desparate! And the amazing thing is that some frum commenters believe the rasha terrorist Qadafi over the President of the United States!!!
Why would the Jewish Qaddafi expect a fair hearing from the Muslim Obama? Doesn’t Qaddafi know that Obama is out to destroy the Jewish people?
מצא מין את מינו…
I do not believe a word that comes out of any of these peoples’ mouths. Just curious Charlie and nfgo3 did you comment at all on al qaeda’s endorsement of mccain?
I personally voted for Mccain but if I had to do it over I would have sat out the elections, since both candidates have been awful in my opinion; Mccain as senator and Obama as president.
Gadafi’s a birther!
If Obama is Gadafi’s son, then we finally can get to see his birth certificate!!
No. 7: Since you asked, no I did not comment on Al Qaeda’s “endorsement” of McCain. I do not even recall that Al Qaeda did so, but if it did, I would not comment, as Al Qaeda is a treacherous and duplicitous organization – sort of like Fox News with weapons. (And to save everyone the trouble of piling on, I’m just kidding about the comparison of Al Qaeda and Fox News. Besides, Fox News is far more powerful than Al Qaeda, even without the weapons.)
#11 I guess you prefer Al Jazeera, BBC, The Independent they are very balanced in their coverage of the ME.
You said you are not comparing the two but then you stepped away with that with your last statement. You are disgusting; Al Qaida slit the throat of Daniel Pearl. You are a cold hearted and sick person, and I think your comments would be better received on a site like Huffington Post, which is full of anti semitic remarks.
No. 11: I think your comment was directed to me, notwithstanding that on its face, it is directed at yourself.
I understand the difference between an organization that, among other things, kills people, e.g., Al Qaeda, and an organization that, among other things, attempts to kill the truth, e.g., Fox News. Killing human beings is the greater sin, but killing the truth – if successful – will result in the killing of human beings, e.g., the war in Iraq.
As I said in my parenthetic “disclaimer,” the similarity between Fox News and Al Qaeda is primarily superficial. The joke I made occurred to me when I wrote that Al Qaeda is “treacherous and duplicitous.” Those words have many meanings, and some of those meanings, e.g., “treacherous” can be synomymous with “murderous,” are not true about Fox News. The two words fit both Al Qaeda and Fox News, but in different ways – hence my joke, however unhilarious you find it. The philosophers and logicians probably have a good word for what I did with the words “treacherous and duplicitous,” but I don’t know what it is, other than a clever but not necessarily true comparison of things that are not strictly comparable.
To No. 11: Since you appear to be interested in where I get my information about the world: No, I do not read or watch Al Jazeera’s TV or web site. It is too new to have established a track record of accuracy. I don’t know what “The Independent” is. I occasionally watch BBC on TV, to get a non-US perspective on things from a source that has a long-established established record of accuracy.
In your comment no. 7, you wrote, in part: “I do not believe a word that comes out of any of these peoples’ mouths. Just curious Charlie and nfgo3 did you comment ….” I am just curious: who are “these people”? I assumed it was not me, because you have never heard a word come out of my mouth.
And finally: I thought of a word that describes my trickeratory and false but superficially reasonable comparison of Al Qaeda and Fox News: sophistry.
My reasoning went like this:
Al Qaeda is treachereous and deceptive.
Fox News is treacherous and deceptive.
Therefore, Al Qaeda and Fox News are the same. The falsehood of this reasoning is that although both Al Qaeda and Fox News can be truthfully characterized by the same words, the meanings of the words in each statement are different, and so the equation of Al Qaeda and Fox News is actually false.
“BBC has a long-established established record of accuracy.”
Lol the network that wouldnt let Winston Chuchill on the BBC when he warned about Hitler. The fact you never heard of the Independent shows you are not as sophisticated as you make yourself sound.
Now mt reasoning is as follows:
Hitler is treachereous and deceptive.
You are treacherous and deceptive.
Therefore, you and Hitler are the same. The falsehood of this reasoning is that although both Hitler and you can be truthfully characterized by the same words, the meanings of the words in each statement are different, and so the equation of you and Hitler is actually false.
You sicko how dare you disgrace Daniel Perl’s memory. Daniel Perl’s words before he was beheaded by Al Qaida fanatics, like yourself:
My name is Daniel Pearl. I am a Jewish American from Encino, California USA. I come from, uh, on my father’s side the family is Zionist. My father’s Jewish, my mother’s Jewish, I’m Jewish. My family follows Judaism. We’ve made numerous family visits to Israel. Back in the town of Bnei Brak there is a street named after my great grandfather Chaim Pearl who is one of the founders of the town.”
