The S&P 500 added 2.12, or 0.2 percent, to 1,400.38, bringing its weekly return to 1.8 percent and its monthly gain to 1.1 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 7.90, or 0.1 percent, to 12,638.32. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 14.34, or 0.6 percent, to 2,522.66. The Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 Index, the broadest measure of U.S. shares, climbed 43.70 to 14,260.75, meaning $54.6 billion was added to the market’s value.
