(PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

History was made in Jerusalem as Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan inaugurated a police station in an Arab neighborhood of the city, a first since the liberation of Jerusalem from Jordanian occupation in 1967. The station was opened in the Shuafat refugee camp.

Erdan has led the effort to establish the station to improve the department’s presence in the Arab sector and improve security in those areas. Some of the officials participating in the ceremony include; Minister Erdan, Jerusalem Mayor Barkat and Police Chief Alsheich.

The so-called Shuafat refugee camp was established in 1965 and over the years, it doubled in size. Today, it is home to about 80,000 people, who to date have not received police services as other areas of the nation.
