Gaza: 1,000 Terrorists Killed Since 2005

Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin said Sunday that “in the last two years roughly 1,000 terrorists were killed in IDF and Shin Bet operations in Gaza over the past two years.”

Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter also noted Sunday that “this figure implies that we have eliminated a fifth of the terror operatives active in Gaza, whose number is estimated at roughly 20,000.”

Dichter called on the government to “change the method of action so that the attrition warfare against Sderot and the Gaza vicinity communities will cease.”

  1. I learned math in Yeshiva, but even I know that 1000 out of 20,000 is 5% not 1/5.
I guess to be a minister in the Israeli government you don’t even need to know that much.

  2. The last sentence about “change the method etc.” is totally and completely unclear, indicating absolutely nothing about what he is looking for. More attacks? ess attacks? Blast Gaza to pieces? Clear Sderot of Jews? Typical Israeli double-talk!

  3. “this figure implies that we have eliminated a fifth of the terror operatives active in Gaza, whose number is estimated at roughly 20,000.”

    1000 KILLED IS A FIFTH???

  4. Great news, but can someone please explain the math to me? How does 1,000 out of 20,000 = 20%? In order to get 20%, the number would have to be 4,000!

  5. Not a fifth – 5%. 1000/20000 = 5% over 2 years.
At this rate it would take 40 years to get them all without their being replenished r”l.

  6. IDF and Shin Bet need to kill another 3,000 terrorists quickly, so Mr. Dichter’s words are not sheker. Either that, or someone needs to teach Mar Dichter arithmetic. I prefer the former option.

Makes you wonder about Israel’s security apparatus…

  7. I hope the Internal Security Minister is better at
security than he is in arithmetic. 1,000 dead
terrorists does NOT equal one fifth of the estimated
20,000 Gaza terrorists!! How about 5%?

  8. Its great to have security ministers who dont know basic math. Last time I put a pen to paper, one fifth of 20,000 was 4,000. Did this genius mean five percent?
