Betar Illit Resident In Custody For Allegedly Trying To Run Over PA Resident

The prosecutor on Monday, 13 Shevat, filed its statement against a resident of Betar Illit, who allegedly try to run over a PA (Palestinian Authority) resident, attacked PA residents and damaged vehicles of residents of Betar Illit on a nationalistic basis.

Earlier this month, police launched its investigation following receipt of a complaint from a PA resident, who alleged he was cleaning a sidewalk on one of the streets in Betar when a vehicle stopped at his side and asked him a number of questions. When he determined the cleaner was an Arab, he tried to run him over several times, moving back and forth and then sped off. The complainant was not injured.

Upon receipt of the complaint, a number of investigative actions were carried out that led to his arrest on the following day, a 25-year-old resident of Betar. In the course of his interrogation, the suspect confessed to five other recent incidents in Betar Illit where the suspect injured the Palestinians and caused damage to their vehicle for a nationalist motive.

The suspect was questioned on suspicion of endangering human life on a traffic route on a nationalistic background, an attack involving intentional sabotage of the vehicle.

The prosecutor’s statement precedes handing down an indictment. The suspect’s remand was extended four days by the court on Monday.
