PHOTOS: Gas Leak Compels Evacuation Of Jerusalem Residents From N’vei Yaakov Buildings

(PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Four fire extinguishing and rescue teams, assisted by the hazmat units, operated at the scene of a strong gas leak on Yosef Eliach Street in a chareidi area of the N’vei Yaakov neighborhood of Jerusalem on Wednesday afternoon, 6 Adar.

It appears there was a significant gas buildup in the area sewage system due to a leak in the residential area, resulting in a high risk of an explosion. At least one five-story building was evacuated near the leak site and the experts were working to ventilate the area and dilute the concentration of the gas.

The area was also closed off to vehicular traffic.
