VIDEOS & PHOTOS: John Bolton Lays a Wreath at Yad Vashem; Visits US Jerusalem Embassy & President Rivlin

Continuing his trip to Israel, John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum on Tuesday, where he took part in a memorial ceremony remembering the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust.

“In memory of the greatest tragedy which the spirit and resilience of the Jewish people has overcome, to help us prevent its like from ever happening again… to anyone,” Bolton wrote in the guestbook, according to a statement from Yad Vashem.

Bolton later toured the new US Embassy in Jerusalem, accompanied by US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

Bolton arrived in Israel on Sunday for a multi-day trip that has included talks on regional security issues with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

Meeting with Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin at the President’s official residence in Jerusalem, the two leaders highlighted the flourishing friendship between Israel and the US while acknowledging the many challenges ahead in the sphere.

“We have discussed all the matters that we are very much concerned about, whether we are talking about the Hamas in Gaza or the situation in Syria, the situation with the Hezbollah and the Iranians of course and the nuclear ability of Iran,” Rivlin said of their meeting.

The day before, Bolton had touched on many of the same issues in his joint press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a particular focus on reigning in Iran’s nuclear power, a “question of the highest of importance for the United States.”

“It’s why President Donald Trump withdrew from the wretched Iran nuclear deal, it’s why he is re-imposing economic sanctions, it is why we’ve worked with our friends in Europe to convince them of the need to take stronger steps against the Iranian nuclear weapons nuclear,” Bolton said on Monday.

Sharing in Netanyahu’s praise for Bolton who is known for his strong backing of Israel and his hostility to the Jewish state’s key foe Iran, Rivlin hailed him as “a real great friend of the Israeli state and the Israeli people.”

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman also thanked Bolton for his support of Israel during a meeting between the two officials in Jerusalem on Monday.

“We have a very supportive President in the White House and a very supportive Administration and this gives us significant maneuvering room vis a vis our enemies to the north and south. Thank you John for your great contribution to Israel’s national security,” Liberman told Bolton.

A three-country tour will also take Bolton to Ukraine and Switzerland, where he will follow up with Russian officials on Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month, the White House has said. The meeting in Geneva is a follow-up to Trump’s highly controversial July summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, according to the White House.
