After battling a difficult illness, Chief Yemenite Rav of Bnei Brak HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Korach ZT”L was niftar in Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Hospital on Monday morning, 13 Marcheshvan, at the age of 84.

The niftar was born into a family of rabbonim and learned with his grandfather during his youth, Rabbi Amram Korach, who was the Chief Rabbi of Yemenite Jews. He made aliyah in 1948 and lived with his father and grandfather in Yerushalayim. His sister disappeared, among the many missing Yemenite children.

Rav Korach studied in Yeshivat Makor Chaim and Ohr Yisrael in Petach Tikvah. He also learned in Merkaz HaRav and then Ponevezh and Lakewood; and he was close to HaGaon HaRav Aharon Kotler ZT”L.

After he was married, he learned in a kollel connected to Ponevezh and he was later appointed to the Rabbanut in Bnei Brak and continue as the city’s rav, the first rav of the city recognized by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

He authored a number of seforim on the halachos and minhagim of Yemen, as well as on Mishna Torah of the Rambam, including ילקוט חיים, אהבת המלך, זמנים למלך and more.

The levaya began at 1:30PM from his beis medrash on Maimon Street to Sanhedria Cemetery in Jerusalem for kvura.

  1. The Rav was an extraordinary Tzaddik. His Midot and his Torah knowledge were complete- as his name (Shlomo – Shalem (Complete). The Rav authored over 70 Seforim including a commentary on the entire Chumash, Shas, Rambam, and many many more.
May we merit to greet him along with Mashiach! Amen.
