IDF Reserve Duty Bill in Knesset Sunday

A bill intended to improve conditions for IDF reservists will be presented in Knesset for a second reading on Sunday. A bill must pass three readings to become law.

The bill calls for curtailing annual reserve duty to less than three weeks. It also demands cabinet approval or joint approval of the prime minister and Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee to implement an emergency call-up procedure as was seen in the Second Lebanon War.

There is a continued decline in reservists reporting for duty over recent years, prompting the IDF and lawmakers to seek method of encouraging reservists to fulfill their responsibilities.
