The Israeli Air Force carried out airstrikes against Hezbollah terror targets in the Dahiya area of Beirut on Sunday afternoon in response to the drone attacks on Israel earlier in the day.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a joint statement saying that “the IDF has just struck terror targets belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the Dahiya district of Beirut in response to Hezbollah fire toward Israeli territory.”
“Israel will not tolerate fire into its territory.”
According to reports, the IDF is on the highest level of alert due to the possibility that Iran may once again attempt to respond to the strike, as it tried to establish a pattern of reciprocal responses over the past week.
Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said last week that “every attack on northern communities in Israel will trigger a strike in Dahiya,” the Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut.
A security cabinet source said at the time: “We have ordered the IDF to maintain the equation we set for Hezbollah, and this will be the test. If there is fire toward our yishuvim, we’ll strike Dahiya, and we’ll see what happens in Iran.”
