HaRav Sholom Cohen: Even If You Are Chiloni, HKBH Loves You — If You Vote For Gelbech in Tzefas Race

HaGaon HaRav Sholom Cohen, head of the Shas Moetzas Chachmei HaTorah, on Sunday evening released statements that surprised many, as it is out of the rav’s character. Pertaining to the runoff elections in Tzefas, Rav Cohen stated, “Even if you are chiloni (secular), you should know that HKBH loves you”.

Rav Cohen met with the chareidi candidate in the runoff race, Nachman Gelbech, along with the head of Shas in the northern city, Ronen Ganon. Rav Cohen spoke of the many secular residents in the city, and calls upon them to support the chareidi candidate, who is being backed by Shas.

The rav explained the city is a holy one, and therefore, the mayor should be Rav Nachman Gelbech, the frum candidate. He added that if the secular voters back Gelbech, and he is elected and does good things, they, the secular voters, will receive merit for those actions too.

  1. the hacham did NOT say that. he said “hashem loves you [ even chilonim]” period. no “if”s! He continued ” If you vote for …. you shall be blessed….”

  2. *** I am not necessarily referring to above artical in particular but rather in general to all current events ***

HKBH loves u if you vote for Gelbech!!
If not then he hates you and you will burn!!
    WHAT!?!?!?!
    ???אוי מה היה לנו
    I can’t stop crying!!
    Where is the REAL Torah?
Where are the the REAL Torah leaders?
Where are those that really want to emulate HKBH and shower ONLY love and kindness to other people?
Where are you BST of today’s generation?? Where is Aharon Hakohen?
Please please please come out of hiding !!! We can’t go on like this!!!
Maybe we are not deserving!! Maybe we are like the ״וחמושים עלו״ !! OY RL!!
But even so, where are those few that do have the zechus?? Where is their leader?? Why don’t you speak up?? Please please please with tears pouring down my face !!!!
My only hope and prayer is that this is the last test. The final test. To come out of נ׳ שערי טומאה.
I guess this is what it feels like. Complete disconnection from spirituality and therefore complete disdain, or at the very least indifference, to one another (indifference is just as bad as disdain imho).
    I love u all!!
I’m trying to love you even if you cause me pain- WOW it’s hard (I know its HKBH that is causing the pain). I’m trying to love you especially when you cause me pain!!! What a difficult task!! This has to be it!! The end!! The final tikun!!!

Sorry for rambling and sorry if I caused you any pain by posting this.

  3. YWN- This is very disingenuous! R’ Cohen did NOT offer brachos and spiritual promises in exchange for voting the chareidi candidate. You make it sound as if he were offering indulgences like the Catholic Church, promising Olam Haba in exchange for money. He did no such thing. All he did was what should be expected; he issued a statement supporting the frum candidate and closed his letter with a bracha, as is common practice by all normal, decent frum people.
    PURE CLICKBAIT!

  4. This rabbi should get out of politics. He is appearing very biased, disparaging, with a devious nature. It’s not up to him to decide who Hashem loves, I find his comments offensive and insensitive.

  5. YWN Is responsible for lowering respect

    Declaration is 100% right on
as someone who votes for religious candidate even if they sin in their personal lives is a making a public statement that They are abundantly surfeit of Aspirations to be better and just a מומר לתיאבון

Someone who votes for a secularist candidate even if personally religious is a ומחטיא את הרבים

  6. Hardly different than one who votes for leftist candidates in
any other country and claims in personal life he/she is an upright fella

  7. RBSG: Stop with your PC rambling. The Torah is not entirely love and loving everyone. It is a combination of reward and punishment, love and opposition to aveiros. Do you skip the tochacha in your shul? Do you skip all the pesukim that mention arba misos bais din?
Actually Rav Cohen only spoke positively and blessed those who vote for Gelbech saying if he does good things they will be rewarded for it. Yet you still complain! He never said anything about burning in hell and I highly doubt any other Rav said any such thing regarding an election.

  8. Hey, gotta read the article. He said two separate things:

    1) HaShem loves chilonim too.

    2) If a chiloni votes for the Shas candidate then they will get partial credit for any good the Shas candidate does in office.

I think there are an unusual number of voluntarily dyslexic readers on YWN. It’s there in black and white, very clearly stated.

  9. Uncle Ben Holy Brother:
I hate to break it to you but we don’t have 4 misos today so we kind of do skip it and what’s tochacha again?? Those psukim that nobody wants to get the Aliya for and that we speed read with a low voice….
And if you’re talking about learning the sugyos and taamei hamitzva then there are probably very few people today that can explain what it means for today’s generation and how it’s supposed to affect a change in us. The words are holy and may affect us on some deep spiritual level that we are not aware of but Chazal tell is the the Torah wants our hearts, our emotion behind the action. I pretty sure the Torah does not want our negativity.
Just look around what’s going on in almost all religious communities RL. The fighting, terrible midos and don’t forget all of these extremist groups that are forming every other day (I prefer to be extreme in a nice way (-; ). What kind of Torah is that? Remember when Rabbeim used to give malkos in many Yeshivas to those poor little defenseless kids? What happen that Torah ? I’ll tell you, it died together with all those kids that are lost from any type of yiddishkeit and the others that committed suicide lo aleinu. I know personally two boys who took their own lives because some “Rav” decided to teach some tochacha!!!
Of course there is a lot of good being done by a lot of people and that’s why we merit to live another another day.

BTW, the Tochacha and 4 misos are no doubt a supreme kindness from HKBH.
I’ll try to find someone that can explain it to me and get back to you.

  10. Torlev, besides for it making you not “feel good”, why is what he is saying wrong? This was said at a time when Bayit Yehudi was in power and activley enabling the drafting of yeshiva bachurim, all while under the guise of being “frum”. If you personally think drafting bachurim is a problem or not isn’t the point. But if you realize that from the mainstream charedi perspective, and the Rav’s perspective, the main thing that we have getting us through the galus is the yeshivos and torah learning, then it follows that the people who try to destory that are equivalent to amalek. It doesn’t matter how that makes you feel.
