SECURITY/DEFENSE:

*CHEVRON: An Arab assailant on Sunday night attacked a policeman, trying to take his weapon. The policeman overpowered the attacker, who was placed under arrest.

*A Dan Company bus traveling in Shomron on Sunday evening was attacked by Arab stone-throwers near Hawarah, in the Tapuach Jct. area. No injuries.

*An IDF officer was reduced to the rank of private and sentenced to six years in prison after he ‘sold’ 21 stun grenades and a large caliber automatic weapon to an uncover police agent. He was an officer of army trackers, assigned to the Yehuda & Shomron Division.

*Egyptian forces deployed armored vehicles on Sunday night to prevent hundreds of people from crossing from Hamas-controlled Gaza to Egypt.

POLITICS, DOMESTIC & MORE:

*1,500 members of the Druse community in the northern township of Masada protested on Sunday night and set two cellular telephone antennas ablaze.

*Defense Minister Ehud Barak told a forum of bereaved parents that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert should have resigned from office in light of the Second Lebanon War.

*Jordan’s King Abdullah II told US Secretary of State Rice that the failure of the peace process places the future of the region in jeopardy. The Jordanian leader blames Israel for taking “unilateral steps” in the region.

*The controversial rabbi of Yishuv Tekoa, in Gush Etzion, on Sunday attended Arab Land Day observances, stating he felt compelled to align himself with calls for justice.
