More on MDA Traif Incident

mda cover.jpgAs was reported on YWN last week, tens of Eilat Magen David Adom (MDA) volunteers have decided to abandon the Eilat station, pained and angered over the reality that secular personnel used the public kitchen to eat traif (non-kosher) meats as well as regularly eating meat and milk together.

The volunteers stressed they will not give up their volunteer efforts towards assisting and saving lives, indicating they will do it through a different framework other than MDA.

In response to the incident, MDA spokesman Yerucham Mandela stated that it was a one time incident, which occurred last year.

This is in sharp contradiction of statements by the religious volunteers, who stated it was a repeated occurrence over the period of a month.

MDA officials released a statement that it was a one time occurrence, stating if there is a repeat incident, it would be investigated and dealt with, adding the organization is involved in life-saving and as such, has Jewish, Muslim, Catholic and other volunteers, who generally work side-by-side, exhibiting respect for each others way of life.

  1. Plenty of Israelis are not jewish, let alone kosher. Why should MDA have the added expense of a mashgiach? What’s the problem with double wrapping things?

  2. a real yorei shamayim brings his own food if there’s a chashash. Seriously, let’s not let these frum volunteers create drama where there is none. Bottom line: they should have been more careful.
